A place called happily-ever-after does exist. I know because at age fifty, I took a detour from the road most traveled and found it. The original road, the road I'd been on since I was a kid was all I had ever known. It was full of potholes, steep drop offs and danger ahead signs, and over time I began to expect and accept the pain that was just around the next bend.
Then one July day in 1996, on a whim, I stepped off my familiar road and tentatively walked down a very scary, narrow path. Many times I thought about turning back, running back to the road most traveled. But the new road was pain free and designed for my comfort and was absent of BEWARE or CAUTION signs. The only signs were those that read, "Happy Ahead." Still, I was tempted to turn around and race back to my familiar road, but I didn't.
I discovered the secret to happily-ever-after on that scary, narrow path twenty years ago. I can come right out and tell you the secret, but where's the fun in that? If you want, you can travel through the years with me as I share my stories via this blog, and discover on your own where you think Happy lives.
